Bowl Kits for Constructed
Woodturnings According
to U-Bild, their Bowl Plans for Constructed Woodturnings
from The Bowl Kit Company are available at various skill levels from
simple segmented to more difficult constructions. Each set of plans includes a
color reproduction, descriptive text, detailed drawings and a scaled template
for turning
Segmented Bowl Plan (No. PL01)from
The Bowl Kit Company. The reversing 'cloud' design on
this Southwestern form uses solid-block segments in Brazilian
bloodwood and holly. This stylized pattern can be expanded upon
with additional design layers and the use of other colored
woods. (7-1/2" diameter, 5-1/2" tall)
Herringbone Bowl Plan (No. PL02)from
The Bowl Kit Company. The herringbone design is built by
alternating ash and wenge angled segments in the design ring
construction. The main body and collar ring are made of maple
burl accented with hardwood disks and veneers. (8" diameter,
5-1/2" tall)
Seedpot Bowl Plan (No. PL03)from The
Bowl Kit Company. The swirling design in this piece of
work uses a reversing angled segment technique that is cut on a
curve, producing the swirling effect. The walnut burl of the
main body is accented with Brazilian bloodwood, holly and dyed
veneers. (8" diameter, 5" tall)
Squashpot Bowl Plan (No. PL04)from
The Bowl Kit Company. This traditional Southwest
squashpot form lends itself nicely to a double row of
alternating groups of angled segments. The maple burl main body
is accented with lamination disks and veneers. (7-1/2" diameter,
6-1/4" tall)
Teardrop Bowl Plan (No. PL05)from The
Bowl Kit Company. A teardrop pattern is produced when a
curve is turned around the sides of joined angled segment pairs.
The teardrops in this work are made of holly, Brazilian
bloodwood and black dyed veneer. (7" diameter, 6" tall)
Pinstripe Bowl Plan (No. PL06)
from The Bowl Kit Company. Staves are nothing more
than tall vertical segments but the staving technique adds a
new dimension to the design palette. The work here uses
solid cut staves of African wenge with black and white
veneer accents. (5" diameter, 3-3/4" tall)
Tulipwood Open Plan (No. PL07)
from The Bowl Kit Company. This classic segmented
bowl is fairly simple yet elegant and timeless. One of
the easiest forms to turn, this open bowl is made of
Brazilian tulipwood with an ebony foot accented with
holly and black dyed veneer. (5-1/4" diameter, 4-1/4"
tall)
Kingwood Vase Plan (No. PL08)from The
Bowl Kit Company. This basic segmented layup uses
solid-block segments in Brazilian kingwood with lamination disks
and veneers. It is built by gluing the segments into rings which
become layers that are stack laminated with the veneers and
disks. (5" diameter, 6-1/2" tall)
Satinwood Open Plan (No. PL09)from
The Bowl Kit Company. Angled segments are used in the
design work on this open form. It is made of Brazilian satinwood
(pau cetim) and ebony. The random segment placement can be
modified to create interesting alternating and spiraling
patterns. (4-1/2" diameter, 6-1/2" tall)
Fluted Veneers Plan (No. PL10)from
The Bowl Kit Company. The open curving design in this
work is produced by gluing rectangular pieces of veneer to the
individual staves prior to gluing the staves into a staves
block. Some previous stave constructing experience is suggested.
(7" diameter, 5" tall)
